Native plant of the day: switchgrass

Switchgrass, Panicum virgatum, is native to North America and can be found growing wild in prairies and meadows. Songbirds feed on its seeds, which generally form in late summer and early fall. Switchgrass has deep roots and can tolerate a moderate amount of soil moisture, which makes it a great choice for native plantings and rain gardens.
