With Mayor Sly James, the KC Streetcar Authority and the KC Streetcar Constructors, a celebration of the first constructed KC Streetcar Stop will be held Friday, April 24 from 5 – 7 p.m.
The Party at the Platform will feature food and beverages provided by Anton’s Taproom and Nara Restaurants; and live music by the local Kansas City Band, Frankowski. The event will be held at the first constructed KC Streetcar stop at the southwest corner of 16th St. and Main St., Kansas City, MO.
The Kansas City Streetcar will have a total of 16 stops. Every stop platform includes ADA-compliant level boarding for both streetcar and bus vehicles. This reduces the overall number of transit platforms along Main Street, thus decreasing the overall sidewalk “clutter” and reducing maintenance costs. Some of the stops will have an artistic element as part of the City’s 1% for Art Program.
Thirteen of the 16 stops will have shelters like the one installed at 16th Street. These innovative shelters include lighted displays, location markers, seat walls, canopies, and windscreens to protect riders from the environmental elements.
The KC Streetcar Constructors are managing the construction of the 16 streetcar stops. The stops were designed by HDR Engineering and the shelters and markers were fabricated by Dimensional Innovations. Concrete and platform work was performed by Kissick Construction.
Construction on the second station stop location has already begun on the east side of Main Street just north of 16th Street to serve northbound streetcar traffic.

About the KC Downtown streetcar project
The two-mile, north-south Downtown Streetcar will travel along Main Street and connect the River Market to Crown Center and Union Station, serving the Central Business District, the Power and Light District, and the Crossroads Art District as well as numerous businesses, restaurants, art galleries, educational facilities and residents.
