Do you wonder how extreme heat, sea level rise and water scarcity will affect future global security? On February 1, retired U.S. Army Brigadier General Dr. Chris King will share outcomes of the Climate Change Summit (COP 21) recently held in Paris and will outline security threats posed by the current and predicted major impacts of climate change.
The presentation, COP 21 and Beyond will examine the data from the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 5th Assessment Report. King will explain how sea level rise, extreme heat, extreme weather events, water scarcity and major destruction in the cryosphere become threats to peace and security in the world.
In 2015, the Obama administration named the threats from climate change among other national security threats in its National Security Strategy.
The event is hosted by Sustainable Sanctuary Coalition and the Village Church Environmental Action Committee. King is a retired brigadier general currently serving as dean of the U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Ft. Leavenworth, KS. He represents the United States on an international military advisory council dealing with security and climate change.
