If you want to learn about the sea that once covered Kansas, take the little ones on the Pennsylvanian Safari at the Museum at Prairiefire.
For most, the great plains of Kansas conjures images of bison stampeding across a field and red-tailed hawks soaring through the clouds. But it wasn’t always this way. Nearly 300-million years ago, the state of Kansas was covered by a vast sea teeming with life. During the Pennsylvanian Epoch, the sea was swimming with enormous, even alien-looking, animals. Their remains still litter the limestone across the Midwest.
The Museum at Prairiefire has brought this era to life with a 45-minute tour led by museum scientists for the Little Explorers Club at 10:15 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday, April 26 and Wednesday, April 27.
