Meet the chefs cooking from the garden

Join local chefs at the Heartland Harvest Garden for a new series of culinary classes focused on cooking from the garden. Each session at Powell Gardens will feature a chef using fresh produce to create tasty dishes.

Guests will receive tips and techniques from expert chefs, sample the food and enjoy wine pairings chosen for each menu.

Craig Jones, owner of Savory Addictions Gourmet Nuts, will prepare the first dinner from 6-9 p.m., Friday, July 22. The menu includes reverse seared Korean steak, bacon-wrapped smoked dates, smashed potatoes, broccoli and produce fresh from Powell Gardens, plus dessert. Jones will show guests how to grill, roast and bake all menu items on the grill. He will show guests lighting methods, charcoal choices, heat management, how to use wood as a spice, and when not to use wood.

The culinary series also includes:

  • Rick Mullins, Mickey Priolo and Calvin Davis, founders of SOIL Collective, 5:30 – 8:30 p.m., Saturday, July 30
  • Executive chef John Smith, 6- 9 p.m., Friday, August. 19
