Try your hand at preserving the harvest

When fruits and vegetables are ripe in the garden, it’s time to preserve the bounty. Learn how to can pickles and make jams and jellies at these upcoming workshops.

The Gardens of Unity Village is offering two classes taught by Lou Elder. In both classes, participants will take home a pint jar of pickles:

  • Refrigerator pickles for beginners 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 9
  • Bread and Butter Pickles 10 a.m. – 11:30 a.m., Saturday, July 23

The fee is $15 for non-members and $5 for members. To make a reservation, call 816-769-0259. These workshops are held at the historic Apple Barn of The Gardens of Unity Village, 150B NW Colbern Road, Lee’s Summit, MO.

The University of Missouri Extension is offering food preservation classes on pickling cucumbers and creating jams and jellies. Each workshop will focus on the preservation method to use for the highest quality and safety in home preserved foods. The classes offer solutions to common canning, freezing and dehydration problems.
