Cut down an invasive, red cedar tree to decorate for the holidays, and help restore a prairie at the Kansas City WildLands Cedar Tree Event on Saturday, December 2.
Kansas City WildLands, in partnership with Johnson County Park & Recreation District, is again offering the public an opportunity to remove invasive red cedars from Mildale Farm — a 22-acre site, usually only accessible by reservation. There will be a wide range of tree sizes and shapes.
Participants can enjoy hayrides, a bonfire, hot cider and cookies from 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. on Saturday, December 2 at Mildale Farm, 35250 W. 199th St., Edgerton, KS. Kansas City WildLands suggests a minimum $15 donation for each tree.
Attendees should bring a handsaw (no chainsaws or axes) and rope to tie the tree to a vehicle. Sturdy boots and work gloves are recommended. Volunteers will be there to help cut, carry and tie down trees. For more information, contact Linda Lehrbaum at 816-561-1061, ext. 116 or [email protected].
