Brookside Farmers’ Market: Get Your Garden Growing

Get resources and guidance on creating healthy soil from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at the Brookside Farmers’ Market, 63rd Street and Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. Missouri Organic Recycling and Compost Collective KC will offer tips and resources on how to build healthy soil with compost. Farmers will offer guidance on successful organic growing and will be selling heirloom garden seedlings and early season greens. East Aster Brewing: Let’s Get the Party Started … in your Soil

The owners of East Aster Brewing are hosting a Let’s Get the Party Started … in your Soil class on how soil microbiology impacts gardeners and farmers. They have studied the microscopic health of prairies, forests and gardens to determine how healthy soil can be created to increase growing success.
The class will be held from 2-3 p.m. on Saturday, April 28 at the Yoga Patch, 7235 Central St., Kansas City, MO. The course presenters, Drew Arensberg and Kara Tweedy, own East Aster Farm and East Aster Brewing, a new company that creates custom brewed infusions of microorganisms to improve soil health. Growing Growers: Building the Soil Community by Managing Soil Health

Growing Growers is hosting Building the Soil Community by Managing Soil Health from 1 – 6 p.m. on Monday, April 30 at Watkin Mill State Park Visitor’s Center, 26600 Park Road N., Lawson, MO. The workshop includes a tour of Fair Share Farm, 18613 Downing Road, Kearney, MO.
Experienced organic farmers will explain soil management practices to maximize soil biology, structure and nutrition through various implementation techniques. This workshop will cover soil health and fertility basics, cover cropping, rotational grazing, soil testing, data collection and land reclamation through native grasses. Presenters include Tom Ruggieri of Fair Share Farm, Linda Hezel of Prairie Birthday Farm, Don and Loretta Craig of Prairie Garden Farm, and John Graff. The cost is $15.
