See sheep, bison, cows, goats & pigs on farm tour

Venture out to the Miami County Farm Tour to see a slice of farm life and get a chance to walk a goat and meet alpacas, cows, chickens, sheep and pigs on this free, self-guided, tour in eastern Kansas.

Fifteen farms will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 12 and Sunday, May 13. Information about the farms and a map of the sites can be found at Miami County Farm Tour.

This self-guided tour highlights the local farm products found on the back roads of Miami County. Three new stops have been added this year:

  •  Lakemary Animal and Garden Therapy Center: A sensory-sensitive and wheelchair-friendly ranch located on the grounds of the Lakemary Center where students care for the animals. Visitors can play with the mini pigs or take the goats for a walk.
  •  Reed Farm: With a backdrop of antique tractors and rows of corn, Kansas City artist David Reed, will present a short film on the life and death of a crop. Reed received an Andy Warhol grant to produce the film. With the help of Louisburg locals, he created an emotional tribute to the farm he grew up on.
  •  Rocking Goat Farm: This is a must-stop for cheese lovers. Rocking Goat raises a herd of goats, cows, sheep, chickens and a few peacocks. Feta, chevre, valencay, cabecou and aged cheeses are made onsite and will be for sale in addition to raw milk and fresh eggs.

Each farm tour site offers activities for the whole family. Animals range from alpacas to Hereford cattle and horses. Most stops offer picnic and rest area amenities. Several stops will have products for sale that may require refrigeration, so participants are encouraged to bring a cooler. Products include cheese, pecans, fresh vegetables, wine and blackberries.
