Job Description

Syntax Land Design is looking for good people who can help us be the best in what we do, using the latest science-based Organic Land Management products and services. First Level Requirements:

  • Interest Required in implementing best soil management practices
  • Learning and Promoting the roll of organic material and liquid biological amendments in dynamic soil systems and the landscape it supports
  • Helping clients understand the benefits of organic landscape management, IPM (Integrated Pest Management) and our effect on the environment we share
  • Learning and helping develop methods and practices to minimize our carbon footprint on the job

Duties would include ground installation or maintenance of industrial, commercial, residential or public property by performing the following:

  • Cutting lawns using various sized power mowers, including electric and gas mowers
  • Trimming and edging using a gas powered edger/trimmer
  • Operating a sod stripper
  • Operating a power backpack blower
  • Trimming shrubs and low trees to shape and improve growth or to remove damaged leaves, branches or twigs using shears, pruners or power hedge trimmers
  • Planting trees, shrubs, perennials and seasonal color
  • Applying organic biological amendments or fertilizers
  • Picking up leaves, trash and weeds and loading onto a truck or trailer
  • Performing weeding by hand or using a garden hoe or hula hoe
  • Managing plant materials
  • Basic insect/disease identification
  • Installing, programming and maintaining irrigation equipment

Additionally, employees are expected to abide by all internal control & compliance practices to:

  • Safeguard assets from theft and misuse
  • Ensure segregation of duties to minimize fraud
  • Comply with business ethics, applicable laws and regulation
  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary information
  • Periodically reconcile physical assets to accounting records

Basic Qualifications include:

  • Ability to represent the company in a professional manner.
  • Good communication skills with clients and the office.
  • Manage and ensure the safety of crew
  • Manage equipment
  • Complete Company required forms
  • Use hand equipment with mechanized moving blades such as gas or electric powered shears
  • Use manual hand tools such as pruners
  • Ride cutting/vacuuming equipment such as mowers
  • Use self-propelled lawn maintenance equipment
  • Work from elevated heights such as an 8’ A-frame ladder
  • Wear and operate a backpack blower (18 lbs) for extended periods of time
  • Use a hand rake for extended periods of time
  • Drive a motorized vehicle
  • Operate machinery on public roads

Eligibility Requirements:

  • 1 year commercial and/or residential landscape experience
  • Excellent References

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

  • Work in/or about situations near direct automotive or construction traffic
  • Work near or about natural or man-made bodies of water
  • Work 8+ hours per day with applicable breaks x 5 days/week understanding that some overtime and often weekend work will be required
  • Ability to work in extreme conditions – temperatures may exceed 100 degrees
  • Ability to work in direct sunlight for extended periods of time
  • Ability to lift and carry 40 lbs. (mulch, fertilizer, etc.)
  • Ability to load/unload burlap bagged trees and potted plant materials (up to 50 lbs.)
  • Ability to bend, stoop and twist continuously throughout the day
  • Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
