RideKC promotes unified public transit

Although the streetcar will only cover a two mile radius, it will provide convenience for individuals in the area who want to lessen their amount of driving and parking fees, while still getting a combined pedestrian and public transit experience downtown. The streetcar will be available for use in early 2016 in downtown Kansas City.

In the style of MAX Bus Rapid Transit vehicles, 22 metro buses have free Wifi as practical ways to appeal to prospective riders.

“In 2016, we are planning to rollout Wifi on all buses,” said Baker. “That is really an expectation that people have now, and it makes the bus more attractive. Part of RideKC is trying to package public transit here in Kansas City to be more attractive to the person who would normally take a car.”

Since using the bus can take a little longer than driving, Wifi allows passenger to access the internet and work if they want.

The essence of RideKC is to promote ease of access to public transit, while unifying and addressing ridership needs.

“We’re keeping our eye on the ball to make sure that we make things better for current users, and make it more attractive so that new users will join the system,” said Baker.
