Head to Lawrence, KS this Saturday for the 16th Annual Earth Day Celebration in South Park. The festivities begin with a parade that leads to an afternoon of activities on recycling, fair trade, water conservation, composting and more.
The parade begins at 11 a.m., Saturday, April 23 at Watson Park, 7th and Tennessee streets, and ends at South Park, 11th and Massachusetts streets.
After the parade, South Park will become a hub of Earth Day activities, featuring informational booths, food vendors and live music from 11:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Attendees will learn from exhibits about waste reduction, recycling, fair trade, composting, energy and water conservation, land preservation, wildlife, habitat preservation, tree identification and alternative fuel vehicles.
The Lawrence Transit System will offer free rides throughout the day to highlight the benefits and convenience of public transportation.
All activities are free and open to the public. The event is hosted by the Lawrence Solid Waste Division. There is no scheduled rain date.
