During KC Bike Month, you can help Kansas City rewrite its Bike KC plan, bike on a brewery tour or to work, and help the kids bike to school.
BikeWalkKC is sponsoring numerous events in partnership with other community organizations. Here are some of the KC Bike Month events that are open to the public.
Saturday, May 6, 9 a.m. – Noon, Foreign Language Academy – 114 E. Armour Blvd.
The Kansas City, MO Planning & Development Department’s Long Range Planning and Preservation staff is currently working to rewrite the Bike KC plan along with multiple city departments, partner organizations and community members. The purpose of this planning process is to establish a clear vision for bicycling in Kansas City, set specific goals and strategies, prioritize projects or project areas for the future, and to address funding and programs.
BikeWalkKC’s Women-Only Confident City Cycling
Tuesdays, May 9, 16 and 23; 6 – 8 p.m.
This series of biking classes begins on Tuesday evenings in May for a safe and supportive place for women to learn bike handling skills, rules of the road, and other tips and tricks. This intensive series teaches safety knowledge and bike handling skills, culminating with a group bike ride.
Wednesday, May 10
Thousands of students across the country will participate in the sixth annual National Bike to School Day. Register your school at Bike to School.
Sunday, May 14, 8 a.m.- 5 p.m., Knuckleheads Saloon, 2100 Rochester, Kansas City, MO
Explore the city’s brewery heritage and modern brewery scene on this unique bike ride. There will be tours ranging from 17 to 50 miles. All funds raised support BikeWalkKC. Visit Tour de Bier to learn more and register for the ride.
Thursday, May 19
Join fellow commuters with a bike ride to work on May 19. From 2000 to 2013, the number of bicycle commuters in the U.S. grew by more than 62 percent.
