Meet local artists at Creative Hand Show

Local fibers artists will display and sell their work at the Creative Hand Show and Sale this weekend. Many raise their own sheep or use eco-friendly fibers to create unique items.

The KC Weavers Guild and the Fiber Guild of Greater  Kansas City are co-sponsoring the annual Creative Hand Show and Sale at the Old Shawnee Town Hall at 11600 Johnson Drive in Shawnee, KS.

The free show is open from 4-9 p.m. on Friday, November 17 and from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. on Saturday, ‪November 18. Artist will have goods for sale, and there will be fiber technique demonstrations both days.

For some artists, the creativity starts with raising sheep or alpaca for the wool. They then card and spin the wool into yarn for weaving, knitting and crocheting. Others sew, felt and bead hand-dyed fabric into art pieces. Many use eco-friendly fibers such as renewable bamboo, rayon, alpaca, silk, cotton, linen and tencel, as well as wool.

Sixty-five exhibitors will have one-of-a-kind jackets, shawls, stoles, accessories, scarves, infant and toddler clothing, home décor, table linens, hand-spun yarn, hand-dyed roving, gifts and holiday decorations.
