Float the Mighty MO on a free, guided adventure

Experience the sights and sounds along the Missouri River at sunrise, daytime or sunset on a free, guided float trip hosted by the Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC).

MDC staff will lead participants on three-hour float trips that begin at Platte Landing Park in Parkville, MO and end eight miles downstream at Kaw Point in Kansas City, KS. MDC will provide two-person canoes, one-person kayaks and transportation from the takeout back to the launch site.

This series of educational float trips will be offered at three different times on Saturday, August 25:

  • Day Dawns Bright Float: 6 – 9 a.m.
  • Day Float: Noon to 3 p.m.
  • Sunset Float: 6 – 8:30 p.m.

Participants must also attend an orientation session on Tuesday, August 14 that are being offered from 4 – 5:30 p.m., 5:30 – 7 p.m., and 7 – 8:30 p.m., at the Burr Oak Woods Nature Center, 1401 NW Park Road, Blue Springs. MDC staff will discuss navigation on the river and details about the float trip. Participants will get a chance to learn paddle strokes, canoe skills and safety instructions at the education pond at Burr Oak Woods.

This program is for adults 18 and older. Participants should dress for the weather, take drinking water, sunscreen, bug spray and a simple meal to enjoy on the river.

Reservations are required, and space is limited. MDC will begin accepting reservations at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, August 1. To make a reservation, call Lisa LaCombe at 816-228-3766.
