Get a close-up view of raptors, tips on identifying wild mushrooms and a demonstration on cooking fresh fish at the Missouri State Fair.
The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) exhibit will be open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, August 9 to Saturday, August 18 and 9 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday, August 19 in Sedalia, MO.
Exhibits will include live fish, native animals such as snakes, turtles and amphibians and native plants that support butterflies and other pollinators. The Conservation Kids’ Discovery Room will be open between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. for hands-on nature crafts and other activities.
The outdoor pavilion schedule includes these free events:
- Watch Raptors: See a live eagle and other birds of prey up close at the Raptors of Missouri presentation at 11 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 4 p.m., August 9 and August 18.
- Learn to clean, prepare and cook a fresh catch at the Fish Cooking and Cleaning demonstration at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., August 10 and August 11.
- Try identifying Missouri mushrooms at 1 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., August 16.
- See a working model sawmill in operation at Forest Products: The Circular Sawmill at 11 a.m. and 1:30 p.m., August 17.
- Visit Invasive Species: Stop the Invasion. Join the Fight from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., August 10 at the Missouri Department of Transportation Highway Gardens to see displays and activities on invasive plants and animals, how they harm native species and habitats, and what people can do to help eliminate them.
