People’s Climate Movement plans global marches

Thousands of People’s Climate Movement marches and rallies are planned throughout the United States and around the world on Saturday, September 8 to demand action on climate change.

The marches will be coordinated with global partners of the People’s Climate Movement to take place the weekend before the Global Climate Action Summit in San Francisco, CA. Participants will be asking for a “fast and fair transition to 100-percent renewable energy for all.” The Summit has invited every mayor, governor and local leader in the world to make a climate commitment to help the world reach the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

To find a Rise for Climate, Jobs & Justice march in cities across the country, go to People’s Climate Movement and search by zip code.

In the Kansas City metro area, a march and rally will be held from 9 – 11 a.m. beginning at 8126 Marty St., Overland Park, KS and proceed through Downtown Overland Park and past the Overland Park Farmer’s Market. The route will take about 15 minutes to walk with stops planned at different locations. The local event is hosted by KC People’s Climate Movement, Kansas City Climate Coalition, 350KC and Sustainable Sanctuary Coalition. For event updates, visit 350KC or KC People’s Climate Movement.

In Lawrence, KS, organizers are planning a rally from 10:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 8 in front of the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St. For more information, contact Thad Holcombe, [email protected].
