You can recycle your old computers, shoes, garden tools, beds, furniture, clothes, bikes, dog kennels, building materials, wheelchairs, toys and more at the Overland Park Recycling Extravaganza on Saturday, April 27.

The event will be held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at Johnson County Community College, 12345 College Blvd, Overland Park, KS.

You can recycle:

  • Confidential documents, which will be shredded on site by ProShred Security. The suggested donation is $5 and $10 for larger quantities.
  • Usable building material will be collected by Habitat for Humanity. This includes: building materials, hardware, fixtures and appliances. Donations will benefit Heartland Habitat for Humanity’s building projects.
  • Clothing, housewares, small appliances, toys and many other items will be accepted by Goodwill.
  • Bicycles will be collected by RevolveKC to repair and reuse whatever is fixable and recycle the rest.
  • Garden tools are being collected by Kansas City Community Gardens. Items include shovels, spades, garden forks, cultivators, rakes (not leaf rakes), garden hand tools, wheel barrows, watering wands and water heads.
  • Gently used shoes including running shoes, work boots, dress shoes, sandals and cowboy boots for children and adults acollected by Shoe Kansas City.
  • Pet supplies such as crates, kennels, dog beds, dog toys, cat and dog food and cat litter supplies will be accepted by Unleashed Pet Rescue for homeless pets.
  • Musical instruments to Band of Angels, which will be provided to students unable to afford an instrument. Keyboards, drums, pianos and organs will not be accepted.
  • Mattresses and box springs will be accepted for recycling by Avenue of Life for $15 each.
  • Medical equipment: CPAP machines, crutches, hospital beds, lifts, scooters, shower chairs, walkers and wheelchairs will be accepted by Accessibility Medical Equipment.
  • Electronics, including tube televisions and computer monitors will be recycled for a charge by Midwest Recycling Center:
    • CRT monitors – $20
    • CRT TVs – 26″ and smaller – $30
    • Rear projection TVs, console TVs and CRT TVs – 27″ and larger – $50
