Meet sheep, bison and cows on farm tour

Venture out to the Miami County Farm Tour to see a slice of farm life and get a chance to walk a goat and meet alpacas, cows, chickens, sheep and pigs on this free, self-guided, tour in eastern Kansas.

Thirteen farms will be open to visitors from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 11 and Sunday, May 12.

All stops will be open to visitors 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday and Sunday. Information about the tour and a map of the sites is available at the Miami County Farm Tour.

This self-guided tour highlights the local farm products found on the back roads of Miami County. Three new stops have been added this year:

  • Nighthawk Vineyard & Winery: After taking a few years off, Nighthawk is back on the tour with some new features in its 3.5 acre vineyard.
  • Whispering Elm Farm: Tucked away by Hillsdale Lake, Whispering Elm is an organic farm specializing in culinary and medicinal herbs as well as elderflowers and elderberries. The farmers offer several tonics and syrups as well as classes and events to support a healthier, more natural lifestyle.
  • Wildwood Outdoor Education Center offers summer camps and outdoor leadership and team building activities. Visitors will be able to canoe on the pond, go on guided hikes and fish.

The farm tour offers activities for the whole family. Animals range from alpacas to Hereford cattle and horses. Most stops offer picnic and rest area amenities. Several stops will have products for sale, including cheese, pecans, fresh vegetables, wine and blackberries.
