Learn about Energy Innovation & Carbon Dividend Act

Tony Schmidt, Kansas coordinator for Citizens Climate Lobby, will explain the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act at a free Bipartisan Climate Solution in Congress presentation.

The Sustainable Sanctuary Coalition of KC and Village Church Environmental Action Committee are sponsoring the event from 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Monday, August 5 at Village Church, 6641 Mission, Prairie Village, KS.

Schmidt will explain the current bipartisan bill in Congress known as the Energy Innovation and Carbon Dividend Act (EICDA). It is co-sponsored by about 50 members of the U.S. House of Representatives. The EICDA is a Citizens Climate Lobby supported plan to reduce carbon emissions in the United States by 40 percent over the next 12 years, while creating two-million new jobs.

The proposal would place an increasing fee on carbon at its source and then pass that money on to all Americans on a per capita basis in the form of a monthly dividend. The dividend is designed to especially help low- and middle-income Americans with their energy costs, while the encouraging new green energy technology and discouraging the use of fossil fuels. It is considered revenue neutral.

Registration is not required, but encouraged by texting Jerry Rees, event organizer, at 913-568-3250. To learn more about the bill, visit Citizens Climate Lobby.
