Recycle almost everything at Recycling Extravaganza

You can recycle your old computers, shoes, garden tools, beds, furniture, clothes, light bulbs, bikes, dog kennels, building materials, wheelchairs, toys and more at the Overland Park Recycling Extravaganza on Saturday, September 7.

The recycling collection is open to everyone, including non-residents, and will accept many items that are more difficult to recycle. It will be held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, September 7 at Black & Veatch headquarters, 11401 Lamar Avenue, Overland Park, KS.

The following items can be recycled:

  • Appliances
  • Bicycles
  • Books: hardback and paperback
  • Building materials, hardware, fixtures and appliances
  • Clothing
  • Craft supplies: fabric remnants, sewing machines, irons, ironing boards, yarn, needles, scissors, cutters, mats, rulers
  • Durable medical equipment: wheelchairs, walkers, shower and bath chairs, crutches and hospital beds
  • Electronics: computer terminals, laptops, radios, stereos, printers, keyboards, CD players, printers, cell phones, electronic parts, tube televisions and computer monitors. These will be recycled for a fee: CRT monitors – $20; CRT TVs – 26″ and smaller – $30; Rear projection TVs, console TVs and CRT TVs – 27″ and larger – $50
  • Fluorescent bulbs: Up to 10 (no compact fluorescent bulbs) per vehicle
  • Furniture
  • Garden tools: shovels, spades, garden forks, cultivators, rakes, garden hand tools, wheel barrows, watering wands and water heads
  • Glasses: prescription eyeglasses, readers and sunglasses
  • Housewares, small appliances and toys
  • Mattresses and box springs: $10 recycling fee
  • Pet supplies: crates, kennels, dog beds, dog toys, cat and dog food and scoopable cat litter supplies
  • Shoes: Gently used athletic, work boots, dress shoes, sandals and cowboy boots
  • Shredding: Confidential document shredding on site for a suggested donation of $5 for a standard file box and $10 for larger quantities
  • Small musical instruments (no pianos, organs, keyboards or drum sets)

I would love to bring items to be recycled, but am unable on Septem 7. Will there be other dates in the KCMO metro area where we can do this?
