Kansas City will soon be home to the world’s largest Passive House Institute US (PHIUS) Certified project, a 276-unit multi-family development that will use 90 percent less energy than comparable buildings.

Jonathan Arnold and Danny Roberson of the Arnold Development Group will share their vision for the Second & Delaware project from 7-8:30 p.m. on Monday, November 4 at the Village Church, 6641 Mission Road, Prairie Village, KS.

When it opens in Fall 2020, the $60-million project is projected to have 10-percent more conditioned passive house floor area than the world’s current largest passive house project, the Lodenareal 354-flat project in Innsbruck, Austria, according to PHIUS.

Located on the north end of the River Market area with a view of the Missouri River, the project combines timeless design principals with energy-efficient engineering to address climate change. Its’ 16-inch thick walls and triple-glazed windows will offer residents energy-efficient, thermal comfort. The rooftop will integrate solar panels, urban farming, gardens and pocket parks. Twenty percent of the units will be reserved for workforce housing to include all income groups.
