Pick a date to help pick some produce

If you would like to help glean farm fields to provide fresh, nutritious vegetables and fruits to area food pantries for hungry families, you can volunteer at area farms during September.

Since the pandemic, more than 433,470 people have become food insecure in the Kansas City area. From April through July, volunteers with the non-profit organization, After the Harvest, have rescued 1,016,759 pounds of fruits and vegetables to meet the increased need. The organization is the largest local produce donor to Harvesters.

Volunteers are needed for gleaning on Tuesdays and Thursdays in September at farms, orchards and gardens. Drivers are also needed to pick up excess food from farmers markets. If you would like to volunteer, sign up at After the Harvest.
