If you’ve got a growing pile of books that need a new home, here’s how you can donate them to libraries, schools and children’s back-pack programs.

Several Kansas City area libraries and non-profit organizations will accept new and gently-used book donations. Friends of the Library groups resell donated books and out-of-circulation library books at pop-up sales to generate funds for the libraries. Other organizations donate them directly to school libraries, churches and youth reading programs.

  • Book Drive KC offers free book pick-up service for those larger donations. Books are donated to local schools, churches and youth groups.
  • Hands to Hearts collects new and gently-used children’s books to send home with school children in back-pack programs and donate to school libraries.

To donate outside the Kansas City area, check your local library or the American Library Association list.
