Mow electric with new rebate program

Are you ready to swap out your gas mower for electric? A new program can help.

The Mid-America Regional Council Air Quality Program just launched Mow Electric, a lawn mower rebate program to assist homeowners with making the switch from gas-powered mowers to electric mowers.

What are the benefits to electric-powered mowers? Electric mowers reduce carbon emissions, improve air quality, and are quieter. In addition, less maintenance is required and you can skip a trip to the gas station.

Through the program, homeowners can receive a $50 voucher for recycling old gas-powered mowers, and purchasing a new electric mower.

Rebate applications can be submitted online, and will be processed on a first come, first served basis until the funding runs out. Applicants submit receipts for lawn mower recycling and purchasing.

Homeowners can also participate through a swap-out event on April 29 at a participating Ace Westlake Hardware. During the events, old mowers will be accepted for recycling in exchange for a voucher to be used at store checkout.

The Mow Electric program is available for residents in Jackson County, Johnson County, Clay County, Platte County, and Wyandotte County.

Gas mowers can be recycled at these locations:
