Borrow garden tools at new tool library

Are you planning a new garden or yard project? Don’t buy tools – borrow them

Garden and farm tools can be expensive and take up space. With Cultivate Kansas City’s new tool library, growers can get access to specialized tools and participate in a local sharing economy.

Open to urban farmers, community gardeners, and neighborhood residents, Cultivate KC’s Urban Agriculture Tool Library launches Thursday, March 2. All memberships to the library are currently free.

The new lending library includes specialty tools for vegetable gardening, home and yard improvement projects, and even beekeeping to create a public, low-cost access to gardening in midtown Kansas City.

Tools can be rented through the Cultivate KC app that can be downloaded to your mobile device. Cultivate KC staff and volunteers can assist with finding the correct tools and returning them on time.

Cultivate KC created the tool library to increase access to specialized tools, reduce financial stress, keep tools out of landfills, promote sharing in the community, and create opportunities for skill sharing and training.

Check-outs and check-ins will be held every week from March 2 – October 26 with access on Mondays from 3 -5 p.m. and Thursdays from 9 – 11 a.m.

Cultivate KC’s Urgan Agriculture Tool Library is located in the parking garage of Plexpod Westport Commons, 300 E 39th St., Kansas City, MO.

The program has received support from Accenture, the Hall Family Foundation, MARC Solid Waste Management District, and a USDA Urban Agriculture and Innovation Production grant.
