Food Preservation 101

Learn to preserve your own food this summer with Food Preservation 101.

Whether you are canning goods from your home garden or local farmers market, preserving can stretch the fruits of summer labor far into winter, for a fresh homegrown taste all year round. Preserving some of your own produce is not only a fun and useful skill to acquire, but is also a healthy, cost-effective way to cut back on consuming processed food.

Join the Johnson County K-State Extension Office for Food Preservation 101 to learn all about food preservation on Monday, June 17 from 6 – 7:30 PM.

Learn the basics of a variety of food preservation methods from water bath and pressure canning to dehydrating, freezing, and more.

This class will give you the knowledge and confidence you need to start preserving your food. Participants can bring your dial pressure canner lids and get them tested for free to ensure they are accurate.

Chelsea Reinberg, Registered Dietitian and a Food, Nutrition, and Health Agent, will host the class.

Tickets cost $10.

It will held at the Johnson County Extension Office, 11811 S. Sunset Drive, Suite 1500, Olathe, KS.

Please note, this class does not have any hands-on cooking. If you are interested in a hands-on canning workshop, Food Preservation: Canning 101 will be held on July 13.
