Get an EV experience at Drive Electric Week

Tap into the plug-in expertise of electric vehicle (EV) owners and check out their electric cars, trucks, scooters and bikes at more than 200 events during National Drive Electric Week from Saturday, September 25 to Sunday, October 3.

To find an event in the U.S. and Canada, search Drive Electric Week using your city or zip code to locate the closest event. Some events are virtual, and most are free.

In the Kansas City area, Evergy’s Clean Charge Network and some dealerships are offering up to a $7,000 discount off a Nissan Leaf SL and up to $12,000 off a Chevy Bolt. Buyers of some EVs may also qualify for up to a $7,500 federal tax credit.

There are four Drive Electric Week events in the Kansas City/Lawrence area between September 25 and October 2.

Saturday, September 25

10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center

4750 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO

This EV showcase is a joint event with the Discovery Center and nearby Project Living Proof, which will also be hosting an open house, garden tour and native plant sale at the same time. EV participants will be displaying these vehicles: Chevrolet Bolt, Ford Focus Electric, Hyundai Ioniq Plug-in Hybrid and Tesla Model 3. Learn more at EV. Face masks are required.


Saturday, September 25

8 a.m. – 3 p.m.

South Park

1141 Massachusetts St., Lawrence, KS

The Lawrence event is sponsored by Sustainable Action Network. Participants include owners of Chevrolet Bolt,  Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model S, Tesla Model Y, Tesla Model 3, an electric bus, E-bikes and E-scooters. Learn more at EV. Face masks are required.


Wednesday, September 29

4:30 – 7 p.m.

Village Presbyterian Church
6641 Mission Rd, Prairie Village, KS

Participants include owners of Chevrolet Bolt, Nissan Leaf, Tesla Model 3, Tesla Model S, Ford Fusion Energi and Ford Focus Electric. Learn more at EV. Face masks are required.


Saturday, October 2

8 a.m. – 1 p.m.

Independence Chamber of Commerce

210 W. Truman Road, Independence, MO

Several EVs will be on display and there will be a raffle for a die-cast model of a Tesla Model 3. Learn more at EV. Face masks are required.

A series of free nationwide virtual events can be found at National Drive Electric Week.

Speakers will cover electric vehicle basics, including how to charge, vehicle range, financial savings and the environmental benefits of driving electric.

Consumers can also check Plug-In America’s PlugStar EV Shopping Assistant to learn more about driving electric, find the best EV for their needs and connect with a local dealer in their area.
