Job Description

Habitat Architects is seeking (4-5) Natural Resource Specialists to assist in the successful completion of habitat restoration and invasive species management in the Midwest region. The position is considered temporary and seasonal, however, the potential for full time employment may result.

Job Category:
Hourly full or part time seasonal employment with potential for year-round employment based on future workload and mutual interest.

Hourly Wage:
Commensurate with experience.

Seasonal Period:
Begins in March and/or April

Description:
The position includes daily outside work in different habitats. Field work ranges from planting, seeding, invasive species mechanical clearing, monitoring and maintenance of native areas, herbicide application, and equipment operation. Field work is often completed in varying weather conditions and includes physical activities during those periods. Individuals who enjoy being outside and working as part of a small team who work hard together are best suited for this position. Hours and the number of days can be flexible to accommodate other obligations such as college classes or similar commitments, but our company generally operates 8:00-5:00 Mon.-Fri. The ability to safely operate different types of equipment such as brush cutters, chainsaws, weed cutters, mowers, water units, and applicators as well as some construction/restoration equipment such as a skid steer, tractor, ATV/UTVs, seed drill, water units, boom sprayer, etc. are beneficial skills. Other preferred qualifications include.

• Natural resource knowledge and past work experience (native seeding, planting, nursery and landscape materials, plant counts and inventories)
• Construction experience
• Plant ID (Native plants and woody species)
• Invasive species management (mechanical equipment, site clearing, herbicide application)

Preferred Qualifications:
• Must be 18 with a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
• Preference will be given to individuals with a natural resource background.
• Natural Resource or similar degree is preferred but not required. Individuals with a suitable degree or currently in school in a related field will be given preference.
• Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions, lift 50 pounds and walk long distances.
• Prior experience driving pick-up trucks and hauling trailers.
• Safety conscious and the ability to adhere to safety protocols and are prepared to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
• Excellent communication, team collaboration, attention to detail, and critical thinking skills.
