Job Description

Johnson County Community College is seeking a sustainability education and engagement coordinator.

Position Summary: Serve as central point of contact and support in all efforts to engage students in sustainability efforts on campus and integrate sustainability across the curricula of the college. Engagement efforts include: conference, fundraiser and awareness week planning; delivering guest lectures; group and class tours; and organization and oversight of the Student Sustainability Committee. Educational efforts include: developing, facilitating and promoting the Sunflower Project for sustainability curriculum development and integration; cataloging and assessing the college’s collective sustainability education efforts through the development and implementation of an internal assessment rubric and national reporting methods. Substantial understanding of disciplinary curriculum and independent decision making in working with faculty and students on sustainability issues is required of the position holder. Coordinate the campuses’ triennial AASHE STARS submission with other Center for Sustainability/college staff.

Required Qualifications:

• Adept communication skills, adaptable to a variety of audiences
• Superb organizational skills
• Master’s degree in social or environmental sciences, sustainability studies or related area, or equivalent job experience (min. 5 years).

Preferred Qualifications: 

• Job experience in higher education, teaching, curriculum development, or event planning
