After the Harvest needs volunteers to help glean fresh food from local farms to be donated to agencies that feed the hungry.
Gleaners are needed at area farms on July 7, 9, 16, 17, 21, 23 and 30 and throughout the harvesting season, which usually ends in November. After the Harvest is also looking for volunteers to help pick up excess food that is being donated from farmers markets.
The non-profit organization donates fresh food to more than 360 agencies that distribute to those in need, including Harvesters.
The organization typically feeds more than 35,000 people in the Kansas City area every week. In the past few months as many are struggling with unemployment due to COVID-19, food insecurity has increased by as much as 42 percent, the organization reports.
