Celebrate the first day of summer by taking part in the 6th annual Pollinator Week, June 18 – 24. It’s a celebration of the ecosystem services provided by bees, birds, butterflies, bats and beetles.
Pollinators are vital to our ecosystem, support terrestrial wildlife and contribute to a healthy watershed. Established to address the urgent issue of declining pollinator populations, the final week of June is National Pollinator Week, and you can participate by learning about these fascinating and crucial animals.
Pollinators are responsible for 1 out of every 3 bites of food that we eat. With the population of pollinators decreasing in recent years, it’s more important than ever to get involved.
This year, the first pollinator-friendly mobile app has been debuted especially for this event. The BeeSmart Pollinator Gardener app has a database of thousands of native plants that will attract pollinators in your yard. Search by light and soil requirements, plant type, and type of pollinator you want to attract. It’s available for Andrioad and iOS (iPhone, iPad and iPod).
But the app is just the beginning—use it to decide what pollinator-friendly habitat to plant in your own garden. Join the celebration!
