Recycle almost everything at Recycling Extravaganza

You can recycle your old computers, shoes, garden tools, beds, furniture, clothes, light bulbs, bikes, dog kennels, building materials, wheelchairs, toys and more at the Overland Park Recycling Extravaganza on Saturday, October 27.

The recycling collection is open to everyone, including non-residents, and will accept many items that are more difficult to recycle. It will be held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday, October 27 at Black & Veatch headquarters, 11401 Lamar Avenue, Overland Park, KS.

The following items can be recycled:

  • Electronics: computer terminals, laptops, radios, stereos, printers, keyboards, CD players, printers, cell phones, electronic parts, tube televisions and computer monitors. These will be recycled for a fee: CRT monitors – $20; CRT TVs – 26″ and smaller – $30; Rear projection TVs, console TVs and CRT TVs – 27″ and larger – $50
  • Usable building materials, hardware, fixtures and appliances
  • Gently used shoes: athletic, work boots, dress shoes, sandals and cowboy boots
  • Confidential document shredding on site for a suggested donation of $5 for a standard file box and $10 for larger quantities
  • Clothing, housewares, small appliances and toys
  • Bicycles
  • Up to 10 fluorescent bulbs (no compact fluorescent bulbs) per vehicle
  • Garden tools: shovels, spades, garden forks, cultivators, rakes, garden hand tools, wheel barrows, watering wands and water heads
  • Durable medical equipment: wheelchairs, walkers, shower and bath chairs, crutches and hospital beds
  • Pet supplies: crates, kennels, dog beds, dog toys, cat and dog food and scoopable cat litter supplies
  • Books: hardback and paperback
  • Small musical instruments (no pianos, organs, keyboards or drum sets)
  • Glasses: prescription eyeglasses, readers and sunglasses
  • Mattresses and box springs: $15 recycling fee
