Do you want to learn more about climate solutions, meet electric vehicle owners, recycle electronics, plant a free tree, upcycle scraps or take the kids on a fun eco-adventure?
We’ve found a variety of events for you and your family to celebrate in-person and some online in Kansas City and worldwide over the next two weeks surrounding Earth Day, April 22.
The first Earth Day was celebrated in 1970, when U.S. Sen. Gaylord Nelson of Wisconsin inspired more than 20-million Americans (10 percent of the population at the time) to gather at “teach-ins,” rallies and protests to demand cleaner air and water. Those efforts launched the modern environmental movement that led to the passage of the Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act and Endangered Species Act.
This year there will be thousands of events and celebrations around the world. To find activities near you, visit EarthDay.Org.
In Kansas City, there are many mostly free and in-person events with topics ranging from climate solutions to electric vehicles, renewable energy, composting, energy efficiency, native plant gardening, park clean-ups, recycling and upcycling.
