Harvesters and KCP&L are partnering to distribute 69,000 energy efficient compact fluorescent light (CFL) bulbs to low-income families served by Harvesters’ network of nonprofit agencies.
The giveaway will be held Wednesday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m. at Harvesters, 3801 Topping Ave., Kansas City, MO.
Low-income families served by Harvesters’ network of nonprofit agencies often struggle to pay for basic needs, including utilities and food. Energy-efficient compact fluorescent light bulbs can save a household $40 over the life of the bulb. Distributing these bulbs through Harvesters’ network of nonprofit agencies will help families stretch limited resources to meet other basic needs.
Harvesters is this area’s only food bank and was Feeding America’s 2011 Food Bank of the Year. Serving a 26-county area of northwestern Missouri and northeastern Kansas, Harvesters provides food and related household products to more than 620 not-for-profit agencies including emergency food pantries, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, children’s homes and others. Agencies in Harvesters’ network provide food assistance to 141,500 people a month.
