Recycle holiday trees, lights & glass

When the holiday celebrations are over, recycle your Christmas tree, greenery, lights and glass at these local drop-off and curbside sites.

Tree recycling: Overland Park, KS

The city of Overland Park has four locations to recycle Christmas trees and other natural holiday foliage. These items can be recycled through Sunday, January 8, 2017 at the following locations:

Tree recycling: Kansas City, MO

Christmas trees can be dropped off for $5 at these Kansas City, MO recycling sites on Monday through Friday. Recycling is free on Saturdays.

  • 10301 Raytown Road
  • 1815 Chouteau Drive

Tree recycling: Lawrence, KS

“Tree-cycling” of live-cut trees will take place at curbside in Lawrence, KS during the first week of January, Monday through Thursday, on residents’ normal trash collection day. All artificial items including tinsel, lights and tree stand must be removed, and the tree should be by the curb or in the alley by 6 a.m. For more information, call 832-3030 or visit 2017 Tree-Cycling Collection. A second pickup will be the following Monday, January 9, in any Lawrence neighborhood.

Holiday lights recycling

Southeast Enterprises is collecting broken holiday lights through January 7, 2017. More than 165 collection sites, including the Greenability office, are accepting lights and can be found at KC Recycles Lights.

Glass recycling

All of those holiday wine, beer and olive glass bottles can easily be recycled locally. Just look for the purple bin outside the grocery store or one of the many locations listed at Ripple Glass.
