Recycle tires in KCMO & Johnson County

Help stop illegal dumping of old tires by organizing a neighborhood tire recycling day or helping neighbors drop off tires at local hazardous waste facilities.

The city of Kansas City, MO offers a Waste Tire Drop-off Program to partner with neighborhood groups for a free tire collection event. Neighborhood organizations can collect and deliver waste tires to the city’s Environmental Campus, 4707 Deramus Ave., on these dates:

  • November 18
  • December 2

A neighborhood group can drop off tires at no charge if an approved letter from the neighborhood organization is provided at the designated tire drop-off location. Contact Marlene Leonce [email protected] for more information.

KCMO residents can drop off waste tires at the Environmental Campus, 4707 Deramus Ave., on the first and third Saturday of each month from March through November. Operating hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A fee of $1.50 (cash only) will be collected for each rimless automobile tire. Fees are higher for tires on rims, larger tires, and for tires that are excessively muddy.

In Johnson County, KS, residents can schedule an appointment to drop off old tires. At the Johnson County Household Hazardous Waste (JCHHW) facility. The facility also recycles paint, lawn chemicals, cleaning supplies, automotive products and other hazardous materials.

The facility is located at 5901 Jim Bills Road, Mission, KS. To schedule an appointment, go to the JCHHW website or call 913-715-6907. There is no charge for residents.

The city of Olathe, KS also operates a Household Hazardous Waste collection facility by appointment for all Johnson County residents. The facility is located at 1420 S. Robinson Drive, Olathe, KS.
