BikeWalkKC features Car Free Challenge during Bike Month

May is Bike Month across the U.S. and in Kansas City, BikeWalkKC is showcasing the many parts of KC’s vibrant and growing bike community.

Bike Month features BikeWalkKC’s Car Free Challenge. Participants log biking, walking, transit and carpool trips. Whether it’s biking to work, walking to the neighborhood library or taking the MAX to a show at the Sprint Center – the more often particpants go car free, the more chances they will be entered to win prizes.

Participants access http://carfreekc.com to log trips, see their rank on leaderboards and recruit co-workers, friends, and family. The Challenge ends with a Handlebar Happy Hour honoring the top individuals and teams.

The Car Free Challenge supports BikeWalkKC’s advocacy work to fight for safer streets, more bike lanes and trails, and better crosswalks. Since 2006 the Car Free Challenge has avoided 41,000 car trips, offset 455,000 pounds of carbon and burned 22 million calories.
