Young adults interested in solutions to environmental issues can apply to a $15,000 UN Young Champions of the Earth competition to win $15,000 in seed funding for an environmental project.
The competition is open to 18-30-year old’s who have an idea for an environmental initiative that addresses a sustainability challenge. The program uses a newly digital platform as an innovation and brainstorming hub for a global community to address sustainability challenges, build capacities and find solutions to environmental challenges.
Each year, six young adults, one from each of the United Nations’ global regions, will be named Young Champions of the Earth, and will each receive $15,000 in seed funding, as well as training and mentoring to help bring their ideas to life.
“As I’ve seen time and again, when young people are given opportunities and support, they can be powerful catalysts for change,” said Erki Solheim, UN Environment executive director. “It is our hope that this initiative will inspire thousands of young people around the world to develop innovative ways to tackle the environmental issues that matter to them.”
Applications are being accepted until June 18. The winners will be selected by a global jury and will be invited to attend the Champions of the Earth Gala Dinner in Nairobi in December 2017.
