Escape to a rainforest to view butterflies

Discover secrets of the rainforest and lessons from nature at the Out of the Blue Butterfly Exhibit at Powell Gardens from March 12 to April 3.

The spring butterfly exhibit will feature the Blue Morpho butterfly from a Costa Rican butterfly farm that uses 100 percent of its proceeds for reforestation, rainforest conservation and research. This is the first time Powell Gardens will display Paper Kite butterflies, which are in the same tribe as monarchs, but come from tropical Southeast Asia. Monarch butterflies will be featured with a program on March 26-27 sponsored by Master Naturalists and Master Gardeners.

The exhibit will include hands-on learning about rainforest and butterfly conservation both locally and around the world. Special weekend events include:

  • March 12-13: Secrets of the rainforest
  • March 19-20: Lessons from nature
  • March 19: Kansas City Kite Club
  • March 26-27: Butterfly gems of the Midwest
  • April 2-3: Surviving in the rainforest

The exhibit is included with garden admission of $10 for adults, $9 for seniors 60 and older, and $4 for children ages 5-12. Members of Powell Gardens and children ages 4 and younger are free. Powell Gardens is located at 1609 N.W. U.S. Highway 50, Kingsville, MO. For more information, visit Powell Gardens.
