Green Commute Challenge saves 963,924 lbs of emissions

The Mid-America Regional Council RideShare program saved a combined 963,924 pounds of emissions by reducing the number of cars on the road this summer.

The 2013 challenge included 27 teams with 835 individuals. Collectively, they helped reduce driving by 999,151 miles — 200,000 more miles reduced than last year.

The Green Commute Challenge is a regional, employer-based contest designed to protect air quality and promote alternative forms of transportation in the Kansas City region — carpooling, taking the bus, biking, walking, or telecommuting. Participants learn the benefits of alternative transportation in this friendly competition and also help reduce air pollution in our region.
