Preview plans for Solar Decathlon House

Get a first look at plans for the 2020 Solar Decathlon House designed by students to attract millennials who want greener, less expensive housing.

Students on the Solar House Design Team at Missouri University of Science and Technology in Rolla, MO are working on their 2020 entry in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon. Their design features a green roof and will highlight the use of micro grids to store energy and make solar neighborhoods more viable and efficient.

“These aspects are perfect for the team’s target market of millennials because they provide cheaper and greener housing options for recent graduates and new families,” said Cherith Parnell, project manager for the Solar House Design Team.

The morning will also include a presentation on Utility Scale Wind and Solar by Mark Hannifan, senior vice president of Tradewind Energy, Inc.

The Heartland Renewable Energy Society is hosting the free presentations from 9:30 – 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 10 at Antioch Library, 8700 Shawnee Mission Parkway, Shawnee, KS. For more information on the Solar Decathlon House, visit Missouri S&T.
