Summer outing series: Get crafty at ScrapsKC

During our Summer Outing Series, join us as we explore local family-friendly outings for summer fun.

What’s our plan to escape the summer heat? Crafting with a field trip to Kansas City’s creative reuse center, ScrapsKC.

The one-of-a-kind nonprofit store is a crafting and upcycling paradise for all ages featuring donated craft supplies and unique finds, workshops, craft kits for kids, and free school supplies for local teachers.

ScrapsKC recently celebrated a big milestone by diverting 1 million pounds of unwanted supplies from going to the landfill since the shop first opened.

Recycling and zero waste have always been central to its mission – collecting used and excess supplies and helping them find a new home. Many of its workshops for adults and children focus on upcycling and raise awareness about plastic and textile waste.

You can sign up for upcoming workshops including FeltLoom Fiber Art, Intro to Hand Felting, or its monthly Creative Club. Keep an eye on the schedule because some classes sell out quickly.

They also sell activity kits for kids online and in store that use upcycled materials for your kids to make crafts at home such as the magic wand kit, build-a-boat kit, and the mini crossbow kit.

ScrapsKC is located at 3269 Roanoke Road, Kansas City MO. Store hours are Wednesday – Friday 12 pm-6 pm, and Saturday 10 am – 6 pm.
