A new training course called OrchardKeepers will teach homeowners how to select, plant, prune and care for fruit trees in the landscape.
Participants will learn about soils, tree biology, site and species selection, insects, diseases and pruning. The course is divided into three workshops; six hours of classroom and three hours of hands-on training.
The spring session will be held from 9 a.m. to Noon on Tuesday, February 28; Tuesday, March 7; and Thursday, March 9 at the Anita B. Gorman Discovery Center, 4750 Troost Ave., Kansas City, MO. The cost is $50 and includes all course materials.
Classes are taught by certified foresters, arborists and horticulturists from the Missouri Department of Conservation, the extension services of the University of Missouri and Kansas State University and participating counties and municipalities.
