Join the Kansas River cleanup efforts at Kaw Point Park

As more and more harmful litter shows up in our oceans, an effort is underway to clean up the Kansas River hundreds of miles upstream, and it is seeking your help.

The Kansas nonprofit, Friends of the Kaw, organizes events to tackle local pollution impacting our waterways including the 1st Annual One KC Kansas River Cleanup.

The event invites community members, families, and local groups to join in for a community-wide cleanup on Saturday, September 7 at Kaw Point Park in Kansas City, Kansas.

Friends of the Kaw (FOK) serves the Kansas River, known locally as the Kaw. The grassroots organization has been working to protect the river from pollution sources including litter, as well as to increase river recreation since 1991.

Kaw Point Park is located along the Lewis and Clark heritage trail at the confluence of the Kansas and Missouri Rivers.

The cleanup will start at 9 am with information about the project. The first 300 participants will receive a free event t-shirt.

Litter will be cleaned up in the park and along the riverbank. Supplies, refreshments, and water stations will be provided.

It’s recommended to wear sturdy shoes and clothing that can get dirty, and to bring gloves and a water bottle.
