EnergyWorks KC (EWKC) is assisting Kansas City, Mo., home and business owners by providing resources that support energy-conserving improvements to their buildings.
“Kansas City residents and businesses are keenly aware of rising energy costs and are ready to take action,” said Gerald Shechter, co-director for the EWKC program. “EWKC helps property owners save energy and money. The key step for them is to sign up for an energy analysis to find out just how much they could be saving through specific improvements. With various news reports introducing possible energy rate increases and the end of some rebate programs, now is the time to act.”
EnergyWorks KC is a citywide program that is funded by the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Buildings Neighborhood Program and is made available from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009.
EWKC provides participating residents with individualized energy-efficiency upgrade recommendations via an energy analysis and then assists in selecting local, certified professionals to make cost-effective improvements and obtain financing assistance to make such improvements more affordable. Although improvements vary depending on the property, many have included additional insulation, air sealing, duct sealing, heating and cooling system upgrades and lighting improvements.
“We are happy that we can assist Kansas City, Mo., property owners conserve energy and save money at the same time,” Shechter said. “There really is no downside for residents, because they learn where they can make improvements to save money and then we help them find qualified personnel and financing assistance to make the upgrades. It’s important to take advantage of current financing incentives as they’re only available for a limited time. EWKC really is a great resource for home and business owners.”
