KCP&L and Westar utility customers and employees can qualify for a $3,500 discount on a new 2019 Nissan Leaf and a $1,000 discount on a 2019 Chevy Bolt for a limited time through a partnership with the KCP&L Clean Charge Network.
These plug-in electric vehicles (EVs) are also eligible for up to a $7,500 federal tax credit.
According to the Clean Charge Network, a plug-in electric vehicle (EV) can cost two-thirds less than gas-powered vehicles to operate. They also have zero tailpipe emissions, which in gasoline powered vehicles accounts overall for 26 percent of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.
Over the past few years, EV manufacturers have reduced “range anxiety” by increasing the distance that each EV will go on a charge. The 2019 Leaf is rated for 150 miles and the 2019 Leaf Plus is rated for 226 on a single charge. The 2019 Chevy Bolt is rated for 238 miles.
In Kansas City, KCP&L has installed more than 1,000 EV charging stations, which is more than any other city in the United States. They are located throughout the metro and can be found on the EV map.
