It’s already August, but there’s still time to plant a garden. Find cool season crops like broccoli, cabbage, and kale for an abundant fall harvest. A fall plant sale, hosted by Kansas City Community Gardens, begins this week.
Plants available will be broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, collards and kale.
Lettuce plants will also be available on August 22, and garlic pre-orders will be available on August 10 through September 15. Pollinator plants will also be for sale to help attract beneficial bugs for pollination.
All of the plants are grown in Kansas City Community Garden’s (KCCG) greenhouse.
KCCG is a non-profit membership organization with annual membership fees ranging from $2 – $25, based on income. Members receive 10 free packets of seeds, a 10-pound bag of chicken manure fertilizer, and discounted pricing on additional seeds, plants and supplies. Memberships may be purchased online at KCCG or at KCCG’s office.
Prices for fall plants vary by membership and range from $0.50 – $1.50 per 3-pack.
The sale will be held at KCCG, 6917 Kensington, Kansas City, MO beginning Wednesday, August 2, and will run into plants are sold out. Retail hours are Monday – Friday, 9 a.m. – 5p.m.
