The Middle Blue River Basin Green Solutions pilot project, designed by URS Green Solutions, Kansas City, is using stormwater management and green infrastructure to address sewer overflows and water pollution. Kansas City’s Water Services Department is leading the project, which began green infrastructure construction one year ago.
By the end of 2011, crew completed:
• 6,600 feet of new or replaces sidewalk
• 5,000 feet of porous sidewalk
• 10,000 feet of new curb
• 73 rain gardens
• 36 curb extensions to collect stormwater and slow traffic.
Currently, Water Services Department is focused on planting rain gardens and spring landscaping, with this portion of the pilot project scheduled to be completed this summer.
